Maalik (2025) Full Movie Review in Hindi |

Introduction Maalik (2025) Movie Review:

Set in the 1980s, Maalik follows Deepak, a farmer’s son who turns to crime after his father is brutally assaulted by a powerful landlord. Seeking revenge, he embraces violence and rises through the ranks of the underworld, adopting the moniker "Maalik" (Owner). Along the way, he faces off against corrupt politicians, rival gangsters, and a relentless cop (Prosenjit Chatterjee) while balancing his personal life with his pregnant wife, Shalini (Manushi Chhillar) 47.

The film’s first half sets up Deepak’s transformation effectively, but the second half devolves into repetitive shootouts and unconvincing twists, making the 152-minute runtime feel unnecessarily stretched

Rajkummar Rao as Deepak / Maalik
Rao delivers a fierce, physically demanding performance, shedding his usual understated roles for a raw, aggressive avatar. However, some critics argue he lacks the natural swag needed for a mass gangster role, making his portrayal feel forced at times 27.

Manushi Chhillar as Shalini
Chhillar’s role is limited but decent, serving as the moral anchor to Deepak’s violent world. Her chemistry with Rao works, though her character lacks depth 9.

Prosenjit Chatterjee as Prabhu Das
Chatterjee shines as the suspended cop tasked with bringing Maalik down. His nuanced performance adds gravitas, though his character’s arc feels underdeveloped 49.

Supporting Cast
Saurabh Shukla and Swanand Kirkire play stereotypical corrupt politicians, while Anshumaan Pushkar impresses as Deepak’s loyal friend. Huma Qureshi’s item number, however, feels unnecessary

Cinematography and Direction

Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography captures the grimy, rain-soaked streets of Allahabad effectively, adding authenticity to the setting. However, the editing (Zubin Sheikh) falters in the second half, with sluggish pacing and disjointed sequences 24.

Director Pulkit (Bhakshak) tries to blend realism with commercial tropes but struggles to balance both. While some action scenes are well-shot, the overall execution lacks freshness

Maalik explores themes of power, revenge, and moral decay, but its social commentary feels superficial. Unlike Gangs of Wasseypur or Satya, it doesn’t delve deep into caste or economic struggles, reducing its impact

The film’s biggest flaw is its predictability—every twist and betrayal feels telegraphed, leaving little room for surprise

Conclusion: Is Maalik Worth Watching?
Maalik is a mixed bag. Rajkummar Rao’s performance and a few gripping action sequences make it watchable, but the weak script and clichéd storytelling drag it down. If you’re a fan of gangster dramas, you might find some enjoyment, but temper your expectations 15.

Final Verdict: 2.5/5 – A passable but forgettable entry in the genre.
